I feel I have a good attitude and I am ready to rock hard with the next project. I have no issues with drugs and/or alcohol. I own a vehicle and a valid drivers license. I am also a graphic artist, which is a plus when putting together promo and advertising materials. In the past I have worked full-time with bands that played 3+ times weekly and recently part-time bands that played 2-8 times monthly. My talents have always provided me with a viable source of income. I consider a band a job and treat is as such. So pay off is also important to me. I always give 110% to every project I am working with.

I prefer classic rock, rock and blues. And am looking to play that type of music. I love to play, and feel it is essential to my existence to do so. I am not the best - and not the worst -- I just want to get back out to play and have some fun.

Seriously, whoever runs that joint needs to honor their word and pay what was originally agreed upon. Unless the band didn't play a full set, was obviously drunk, or was blatantly rude and trying to scare off business (which probably would've been mentioned if it happened). The bar assumed the risk of paying the band when they booked them. Too bad for Hog Heaven if they didn't research if the band would fit in well and draw a big crowd. Or they failed to promote the night properly. Either way, it's not the band's fault at all. Like someone else mentioned, Hog Heaven wouldn't have paid them extra had the night been great.

The proper way to handle the situation would have been to pay them in full and explain the bad night to them. It should be up to the band to pay them back if they choose to be sympathetic.

I personally will never step foot in there and/or spend another cent there again. I feel I have a good attitude and I am ready to rock hard with the next project. I have no issues with drugs and/or alcohol. I own a vehicle and a valid drivers license. I am also a graphic artist, which is a plus when putting together promo and advertising materials. I always give 110% to every project I am working with.

I prefer classic rock and blues. And am looking to play that type of music. I love to play, and feel it is essential to my existence to do so. I am not the best - and not the worst -- I just want to get back out to play and have some fun.

to make it public...

While I never acclaimed Super-Stardom status as yourself, I simply play, do the best I can & enjoy playing music. I never claimed to be in the 'Best Band, the Biggest Drawing band, the Highest paying band, etc...
You, however seem to have a long-standing 'fan-base' which show's your true character as a person and as a 'musician'.

The part of the whole situation that kills me, and perhaps the whole reason why I started this whole posting war is that at the end of the night, you never even bothered to 'work it out', something like "Look dude we had a bad night, I know the contract was for $600, I'm aiming at $300, can we settle for something in the middle, say $450,,,,$400?",
but ya didn't even do that!! You just said "This is what you gettin, take it or leave it!!",,,,,,,,,,,Not Cool.

I'm no business-man like yourself, but wouldn't the bar already have the evenings Entertainment accounted for, sealed in an envelope?? maybe saying something like 'Band Pay for Friday night', Cash, Check, M.O., whatever.........I don't get it. Instead you make me come back to the bar on Monday and try to pry it out of the owner,,,,, which I did go back on Monday afternoon and politely asked for the remaining balance,, in which the Owner barked at me saying "Your not gettin it", then walked over took down our poster from Friday nights gig, ripped it up in my face and walked out the back door...........Real Classy dude.

But since you guys are exposing the rest of us to this, I feel entitled. Here we go:

First, this is not a work of fiction. Hog Heaven has been gaining a reputation for this, fairly or unfairly. They were already on alot of band's "do not call" list prior to Jon putting this post on here.

One thing is not in dispute:

Hog Heaven refused to pay the agreed upon price. There is no excuse for this short of the band doing damage to the venue or some such thing. Hog Heaven has never claimed this, so I would recommend any band either get paid in advance or don't play. Like I say, this has been swirling around prior to Cadillac Tramp, this just confrims what others are saying.

Chad:

Not to demean your whole 6 years of playing substandard shitpop, but I have seen your band 4 times and seen them tank 2 of those times because you were all too drunk to play. Perhaps the bar owner was a moron to pay you for those nights? But I guess if you can stick your finger in the air it must mean that you know the true meaning of rock-n-roll.

Jon:

You asked me to play a fill-in gig for you. I went through the trouble of learning your setlist and you called me 6 days before and cancelled. I don't hold it against you, but I got nothing out of the work I did.

That is not really the work of a straightforward businessman is it?

Why don't you both cut the shit, move on and learn from it?

Don't book at Hog Heaven if you don't feel comfortable Jon.

I'm 19 years old, and can play the Guitar, Bass, Drums and also Sing, and I am pretty expiernced in playing with bands and writing music. I also have all my own gear. I will play any insturment depending on the other memebers I find, however I would really like to play the Guitar or Drums for this band in particular. I think that's bullshit. An agreement is an agreement. If you, as a bar owner, agree to hire a band for $600 dollars and they show up and play as agreed upon then guess what? You OWE them $600. It's as simple as that. A bad night for a bar is not an excuse to stiff the band! Suppose the bar had a killer night and made $10,000 would they be obligated to pay the band more then the agreed upon fee? Nope. Being in business is tuff, but if you want to stay in business you honor your obligations. I won't be going to Hog Heaven any time soon!

They got paid (100%) of what was made in the bar from open to close. $300.00 Now you do the math on what Hog lost for the day.
25% Cost to generate (Product cost) $75.00
$10.00 pr. hour for 12 hrs. (Bartender) $120.00
$10.00 pr. hour for 11 hrs. (Cook/ Bar Back) $110.00
Now not figuring in taxes, utilities, Ascap/BMI Fees or the booze they drank for free that night. we already lost $305.00. Where Cadillac Tramp has no agent fee and no real production cost. So as a 4 piece band plus 2 helpers you profited $50.00 per guy less gas money. So you tell me who lost their ass that day.

I would love to know what other business you are in that as a sub contractor you can loose money for the buyer and expect to get paid. Hog Heaven did pay 50% of what was agreed upon.
Also for those of you that are questioning weather Hog Heaven pays their bills or not its really easy to find out, search Hog Heaven LLC on WI Clerk Of Courts and look for judgments pending. Also for those of you that are new to this. This is a really great way to decide if a room you are looking to play at is a good room or not (Free Advice From Me!) and I'm going to go a step beyond that today. * Band consistently plays between 60 and 80 shows a year. I will lend all of my ability and resources to like-minded musicians. I'd like to gig 3+ times a month more or less, and usually avoid all-blues and all-original bands just because of the limitations on available gigs.

I've been with a few notable bands, and really want to avoid ego's and drama. I have very nice equipment and operate a sound reinforcement company as a profession.
