A peer to Rupert Neve in knowledge and creative and brilliant instinct is Inward Connections/Tree Audio’s designer Steve Firlotte for his bigger-than-life clear and crisp yet fully tubulicious audio designs.
This variation of the Inward Connections 820 sidecar console has four tube mic preamp/DI’s, 2x tube Pultec EQs and 2x of Steve’s worshipped Vac Rac school of tube limiters ala TSL-3, TSL-4 & TSL-5. This console makes everything it touches sound effortless and incredible. But in the bass frequencies it’s simply peerless.
The 820 vs Ampeg SVT. Low end. We don't know what it is but this sidecar console is not bassy sounding in the slightest in vocals, and all other instruments (flat not phat, juiced not boring) but it lets bass be free to be bass in its freest form. Hard to describe, but the way it handles bass frequencies (again, NOT even a smidgin overly bass-heavy) is breathlessly effortless. Best guess is that it has something to do with the 820’s MASSIVELY heavy 3U rack-mount power supply fed by its rows of 6L6 tubes.
The 820 vs Led Zeppelin. The 820 vs The Sex Pistols. And when pushed, the other vein of hi intensity magic this thing delivers is electricity. There's only two bands I know that have this indescribable highest level of vibrating electricity energy. Led Zeppelin and the Sex Pistols have the sound. So does this 820 in that same way. Let’s just combine the last two paragraphs and you have electric bass that's incomparable. And that's just but one magical thing the thing does.
