This is the first year production of the Gretsch G6131-MYF Malcolm Young II Signature Duo Jet, introduced in 2006. The guitar features an Aged Natural Flamed finish on the top, paired with a black back and sides. This semi-gloss, thin-skin finish is designed to emulate the "tour-worn" aesthetic of Malcolm Young's heavily modified 1963 Gretsch Jet Firebird, affectionately known as "The Beast" .
The flamed top version of this guitar features a natural variation that gives each guitar a unique visual character, even within the same model line.
In contrast, the G6131-MY model, which also pays homage to Malcolm Young's iconic guitar, features similar specifications but does not exhibit the grain patterns. Both models aim to replicate the look and feel of "The Beast," but individual differences in wood grain can result in distinct appearances between guitars.
These natural variations are often celebrated by guitar enthusiasts, and this is one of the earliest and finest variations. This G6131-MYF's distinctive checkered grain adds a personal touch to its homage to Malcolm Young's legendary guitar.
